Permanent Dentures in Edmond: An Advanced Aesthetic Option

PUBLISHED March 18, 2014 by Ken Templeton

permanent-dentures-edmondIf you have experienced total tooth loss or have been told it is imminent, you should know that losing your teeth does not have to mean spending the rest of your life putting your teeth in a cup on the bedside table. While removable dentures were once the only answer to total tooth loss, there are better options available today – ones that look, feel and function like your own natural teeth.

Among the most popular of these among Edmond patients is permanent dentures, an advanced aesthetic option that offers not only a beautiful smile, but also provides protection against bone loss in the jaws that often makes removable denture wearers look older than they should.

Strong, healthy teeth are very important, supporting the ability to eat properly for optimal health and nutrition, as well as the ability to speak clearly. While these things are essential to everyday well-being, so too is confidence and self-esteem, factors that are often severely impacted by tooth loss.

Removable dentures very often aren’t much help, since they tend to slip or make embarrassing noises as a person eats or speaks, and chewing and biting aren’t as efficient with removable dentures, factors that can deter denture wearers from involving themselves in social situations.

Permanent Dentures vs. Removable Dentures

Permanent dentures, on the other hand, are securely anchored in place by dental implants, which act as substitute tooth roots, closely mimicking the structure of natural teeth. They will not slip or click, nor will they interfere with your ability to speak or eat normally. Inserting artificial tooth roots into the jawbone will provide protection against bone loss that occurs in a toothless jaw, preventing the aged look that occurs in the face as jawbones shrink away.

Permanent dentures look much more natural than even the best made removable dentures as well, especially when top-quality prosthetics are used in your dental restoration, such as the Prettau Bridge.

While replacement teeth used in implant-based restorations can be made of a variety of materials, Prettau Zirconia, the material from which the Prettau Bridge is fashioned, offers the most brilliant, natural-looking smile. It has a translucent quality that makes it extraordinarily similar in appearance to natural teeth, so much so that it needs no veneer coating to create a beautiful smile, unlike most other options.

Prettau Zirconia is the hardest dental material available today, offering a permanent solution to missing teeth that will not chip or break like porcelain or acrylic bridges, and will not absorb liquids, so there is no staining or “denture breath” with the Prettau Bridge.

So if you’re interested in making the very best choice in terms of both oral health and your appearance, permanent dentures stand well ahead of any other restoration option, and the Prettau Bridge is, by far, the most advanced aesthetic option in prosthetic teeth.

Permanent dentures will require a larger initial investment than those removable dentures, but since dental implants have an average lifespan of 25 years and the Prettau Bridge is exceptionally durable and long-lasting, it is an investment that will serve you well for a good many years. Besides, isn’t the ability to smile, laugh, speak or sing with total confidence priceless?
